Okay, so I want a WW2 game, so I went to Best Buy to see what they had for PS2. They were sold out of Call of Duty (I assume one of the first in the series for PS2), but they had Call of Duty 3 for $40. The other was $20, and the only other WW2 game they had was Medal of Honor: European Assault, also for $20. I'm a big fan of the Call of Duty series and haven't played Medal of Honor at all, and I'm wondering which one to get. Obviously, I don't want to spend $40 on a game, since that's a lot of money, and I could wait til it becomes a greatest hits or comes down in price. But I don't know if it's worth it to spend $20 on an older game or not.

Let me know what you think.

-edit- Apparently, "Call of Duty" (which was sold out) was the second one, "Big Red One", which I've played and beaten, so I don't know how much I'd want to replay it since I've already beaten it once.

I picked up CoD3 cos it was cheap 2nd hand. I'm not a big FPS fan, so my word isn't the best to go on, but I don't think it's that great - graphically it's awesome. The controls just seem a little clumsy for me... plus I am really shit at it, by the time I have worked out who my buddies are, and who the Nazis are (you lose if you shoot one of you're own) I have been shot to death.

On a seperate note, has there been a WWII game to date that has had British playable character? Everyone of them seems to be based on US soldiers. I'm pretty sure the British had an a fairly major involvement in the war. I guess because all the games developers are Yanks - it'd just be nice is all. I'd actually be interested in playing a WWI game as a British soldier - although I guess it wouldn't be a great game, dig some trenches, sit around for a while until it's time to go over the top... then probably die.

Well, I think in Call of Duty 3 you play as one, if I'm not mistaken. Some of the games you play as a Russian soldier, French soldier, and so on. Only one recent Call of Duty game has you playing entirely as an American (Big Red One), because that one follows the 1st Division throughout the entire war in different areas. Other games though, focus the plot development on different soldiers in different groups. So it's actually one of the few games made by the "Yanks" that have you playing as other nationalities.

Plus, I think a Napoleon-era game would be fun. Stand in a straight line, shoot, duck down, reload, shoot, duck down, reload...

-edit- From wikipedia...

The single player campaign focuses on the Normandy breakout campaign following the landings at Normandy, and depicts battles from the perspectives of United States and Canadian soldiers, British SAS operatives dropped behind German lines to support the Maquis, and Polish tank crews.

I did by COD3 by the way, and to be honest, I had more fun playing Big Red One. Not because it was the same group of characters, but because there was stuff like being the gunner on a B-24 Liberator, then taking position as the bombardier, taking control of a Flak gun and so on. Granted you control tanks and jeeps, I wish there was some aerial combat. The most is the landing as a paratrooper.
