Found this in the $16 or under bin at Circuit City, had a price tag of $8.95 on it, and I have to say, it's quite worth the money. The amount of realism is unparalleled, but to play it down it does have quite a bit of kinks, stalls once in a while (three times in like 50-60 plus hours of play) and has really good (but not the best) graphics in the world. Although my one problem with San Andreas was the cars, they do look much better.

The part I like best is the response to criminals. You flash your badge, they either drop their weapons or rush you, maybe pull out a gun. If you fire a warning shot, they might act the same way. Some might run when you turn the other way, and since you're an undercover cop, cops threaten you as well until you flash your badge. Then they're all friendly and nice.

Also, the pawn shops are cool. Trade off illegal drugs or evidence for money, but you better watch out - cops might figure it out and take you down for being a rogue officer. Get caught, and you get demoted and have to make up for it by arresting a few criminals and making sure not to fuck up even once.

Gamespot rated this game a 4.6 out of 10 (bad), compared to True Crime: Streets of L.A. (which was a 7.6 I think), and compare that to 9.6+ for the last three GTA games. IGN rated San Andreas a 9.6 or 9.8 I think, Streets of L.A. a 9.0, and NYC a 7.8 --

So in other words, all these bad ratings just served to drive down the price of an otherwise really, really fun game.

Thanks for the bad ratings, huh?

I've long been tempted to play this game. I'm sort of at the feeling that I should just break down and buy it instead of renting. Renting is so expensive nowadays. I just couldn't convince myself it was worth the dough without any experience with it.

If its that cheap now, I may give it a whack before long.

Really worthwhile, huh?

Yep. Half.com has some good deals as well, they got a TC:SOLA for $1.50 but I wouldn't trust it. The NYC ones are about the same price, between $3 and $5 with S&H.

TC:SOLA isn't nearly as good though is it?

It got higher ratings, but I personally like the setting of LA better. Granted it was 2 years older, I'd say both are as fun. SOLA is more fun for driving on the interstate, and for those of us that aren't used to one-way roads, its much easier.
