Something about Shaun of the Dead really hit me just right and so I was psyched to see Hot Fuzz with the same director and two main actors.

Simon Pegg is a good cop who gets shuffled off to a small town when he is making everyone else look bad. He then begins to crack down on the quite lax law around town. Soon he begins to find that something isn't quite right about the town.

Something about Simon Pegg's acting seems very natural to me and I like watching him in general. Though I am curious of his exposure in England... has he been overexposed there to the point where people don't like him so much or is he well-liked in general? I'm curious to get another perspective, as always.

I didn't really find Hot Fuzz to be as entertaining to watch as Shaun nor even some of Simon's other work. Seemed sort of like a hit and miss kind of project and the mystery was such that you could easily figure out what was going to happen next. I suppose that could have been a joke they were making about that genre of storytelling? Occham's Razor. But I did rather enjoy the concept of the finale.

However, the film contained a massive quantity of one of the few unforgiveable sins in action films for me... an unrelenting barrage of super-close-up-spastic-shaky-cam-fight-scenes. Not only could I barely tell what was supposed to be happening, I became a little nauseated, which never happens to me in a cinema. I like being able to see the action when it happens rather than guess at what I just saw.

I did really like when he kicked that old lady's ass hardcore. That was probably my favorite shot of the movie.

I also liked the gratuitous gore.

When all was said and done, I suppose...

Heard it was funny, I liked Shaun of the Dead, but this costs money so when someone else buys it I'll be a bum and borrow it.

I guessed that was deliberate. And I quite enjoyed the rollercoatseryness of it. Is that a word? Oh well.

Overall I loved this film, probably a little more than Shaun etc... As it was a little more fast-paced.

As for Simon Pegg...don't know an awful lot about him, but i'm pretty sure he started in the TV series Spaced...which was king of an offbeat/random comedy, also with ??? Frost...can never remeber his first name, the tubby guy anyway. It wasn't a major success as far as I know, more of a cult thing though. Then when Shaun etc came out his popularity went up, and Hot Fuzz probably did even more for him. I think he's been in a couple of american films too hasn't he?

Oh well, can't be arsed to disect this movie much more now, got work to do. Will be back to hit up that spiderman post though...would be interested to see what you thought of it Koen. :D

His first exposure was in an advert. What it was for escapes me at this moment but if you ever see it, you'll remember it instantly. Spaced was his big break afaik, since he not only starred but wrote most of it. It was only a cult success but it seeme dto have worked well as a springboard to the bog screen.

I enjoyed Hot Fuzz. Had to watch it since SOTD was so damn good. That being said, I didn't find myself comparing it to Shawn at all. It wasn't perfect but I was laughing most of the time anyway so it didn't matter :)
Yup...

I heard it was good, but I'm sure a good bit of it flew over the heads of those not from the UK. I need to find someone who has this on DVD, if it's even out yet.
